چکیده

In this report we present the rst results of a very eecient scheme for vehicle detection in traac scenes. It is based on the detection of the shadows underneath the vehicles. The use of shadow as sign pattern was rst reported in 5]. Herein a histogram evaluation of the paved road sustains the speciication of a threshold value for the shaded areas. This threshold along with edge information leads to the shadow detection. Incorporating external knowledge from the 3D geometry and applying natural constraints to the clustered segments we are able to robustly generate initial object hypotheses.

Moving Cast Shadow Detection

Moving shadow detection is an important topic in computer vision applications, including video conference, vehicle tracking, and three-dimensional (3-D) object identification, and has been actively investigated in recent years. Because, in real world scenes, moving cast shadows may be detected as foreground object and plauge the moving objects segmentation. For example, in traffic surveillance ...

A New Approach for Vehicle Detection in Congested Traffic Scenes Based on Strong Shadow Segmentation

Intelligent traffic surveillance systems are assuming an increasingly important role in highway monitoring and city road management systems. Recently a novel feature was proposed to improve the accuracy of object localization and occlusion handling. It was constructed on the basis of the strong shadow under the vehicle in real-world traffic scene. In this paper, we use some statistical paramete...

Moving Object Recognition and Classi cation based onRecursive Shape Parameter

We present an approach for recognizing and classifying moving vehicles in monocular images sequences of traac scenes recorded by a stationary camera. A generic vehicle model, represented by a 3D polyhedral model described by 12 length parameters, is used to cover the diierent shapes of road vehicles. The object recognition process is initialized by formulating a model hypothesis using a referen...

Removing car shadows in video images using entropy and Euclidean distance features

Detecting car motion in video frames is one of the key subjects in computer vision society. In recent years, different approaches have been proposed to address this issue. One of the main challenges of developed image processing systems for car detection is their shadows. Car shadows change the appearance of them in a way that they might seem stitched to other neighboring cars. This study aims ...

Characterization of Occlusion Situations Occurring in Real{world Traac Scenes

During evaluation of real{world traac scenes, we often encounter the situation that the vehicles under scrutiny are temporarily occluded by dynamic or stationary scene components. Vision{based tracking algorithms often fail in tracking vehicles under such conditions. Contextual knowledge about occlusions is expected to facilitate the vehicle tracking process. We collected a set of potential occ...
